Racialization and Health Equity

A recent study found that when Black residents lived in segregated neighborhoods (majority Black) they were exposed to different health risks and limited access to health services. However, when Blacks lived in racially diverse and integrated neighborhoods, even if it was a low-income neighborhood, the fact that it was still integrated, the disparities in hypertension, diabetes, obesity and health services utilization either vanished or were greatly reduced. This training enlightens leaders and staff in health care on how a racialized society produces and sustains racial health disparities without racism, and how health care leaders can develop the skills around equalizing access, treatment and managing racial biases, quality and improving outcomes for everyone, while targeting racially marginalized groups.
