In partnership with MMA, the Racial Equity Group is conducting a short survey and would like your participation. More than one person per municipality can fill out this survey. Ideally, this would be a chief municipal officer, HR director, or DEI officer.

The results of this assessment will assist MMA in its strategic planning for advancing diversity, equity and inclusion efforts in local government.

You will be asked to complete a brief questionnaire. All of your answers will remain anonymous and confidential. Your responses will only be used in aggregate summary format. The survey should take less than 15 minutes to complete.

You will be presented with a series of statements to rate your municipality’s current state based on best practices for advancing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Please respond using a scale with the following options:

Not started: practice not present, inactive or currently undetermined
Emerging: discussions started, awaiting decision or approval
Establishing: practice is partially in place or process for implementation has started
Reinforcing: practice is currently present and active
Do Not Know

All statements require a response unless you are directed otherwise. Some statements will refer to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). By this we mean:

Your municipality analyzes data to determine if “inequities” or significant disparities exist between different demographic groups (e.g. race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation) and attempts to reduce inequities by removing barriers for all demographic groups in the following areas:

  • Employment: hiring, promotions, compensation, retention
  • Service delivery and programs: access to quality municipal services and programs, and treated fairly and with respect by municipal staff
  • Purchasing and procurement: vendors, suppliers and businesses, regardless of demographic groups have a fair chance to compete and be awarded contracts for all types of municipal purchasing and spending (e.g. bid and no bid)
  • Community engagement: stakeholders (e.g. residents, staff) have access to become board and committee members and provide feedback on municipal budgets, policies and decision-making
